As India looks to improve its T20 bowling, Rohit Sharma supports Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Before the Twenty20 World Cup next month, India’s bowling has to be improved, according to captain Rohit Sharma, who believes that seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar can recover from a recent dip. India defeated Australia’s Aaron Finch by six wickets to win the three-match T20 series 2-1. India will now welcome South Africa for a white-ball series beginning on Wednesday. Although the team’s batsmen, especially Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, have been in excellent form and secured victory on Sunday with a 104-run stand, the final few overs bowling has been unsettling.

Kumar, who used to be the best at suppressing runs in a T20 match’s last overs, has recently been expensive. In the series-deciding 18th over, he allowed 21 runs to the scorer, with Tim David hitting him for two sixes and a four.

In a press conference following the game, Rohit praised the seasoned fast bowler, saying, “We know that he has had more good days than the bad days in the previous years.”

“Yes, his recent performances have not been what he would have liked, but any bowler might have a slump at any time. It’s difficult to bowl in the closing seconds because you can see the opponent.”

The 32-year-old Kumar, who continues to be an essential part of the team’s plans for the T20 tournament’s championship game in Australia, only has two wickets from two games and a costly economy rate of 13.00.

To assist Kumar in returning to his miserly form, Rohit stated the squad would develop a better plan for the three T20 international matches against the Proteas.

“We’ve been developing some strategies for carrying them out, and perhaps we can give him more opportunities to bowl in the death, and he’ll be as excellent as he was before. And he doesn’t lack confidence,” the Indian skipper remarked.

“We want him to return as soon as possible since he has previously bowled such challenging overs. We all have faith in his competence. It’s time to continue supporting his skill set and demonstrating our trust in him.

After recovering from their injuries, pace king Jasprit Bumrah and fellow fast Harshal Patel rejoined the squad, and Rohit predicted that the bowling unit would find its rhythm with more playing time.

“We place much more emphasis on bowling than the batting at the moment,” said Rohit.

You need to give those three (Bumrah, Harshal, and Axar Patel), who hasn’t played much cricket in the past, some time and bring them back (in rhythm) as soon as you can, added Rohit.

“With the sort of people they are, I don’t believe it will take too long,” the speaker said. “It’s just about building their confidence.”
