Imran Khan calls for Shehbaz Sharif to quit amid a dispute over audio clip leaks

Imran Khan, a prominent Pakistani politician, sought the resignation of Shehbaz Sharif on Monday in response to “leaked” audio clips referring to the “Indian import of machinery for a power plant.”

“Nawaz is telling him [CEC] who should be disqualified and when to hold elections. After the audio leaks, the CEC should resign if he has even an ounce of shame,” Khan said. These videos purport to show conversations between Maryam Nawaz, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, Khawaja Asif, Azam Tarar, the minister of law, and Rana Sanaullah, the interior minister of Pakistan. Hindustan Times is unable to independently verify these claims.

According to reports, the audio also includes the voices of PM Sharif and previous NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq. “PM Shehbaz Sharif should resign after the audio leaks involving him, some cabinet members and government officials have surfaced. In the audio leaks, Shehbaz is talking about bringing machinery from India for his niece Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law (Raheel Munir). If Shehbaz has any shame left in him, he should resign… otherwise we will make him go home.”

A voice that is purported to be Sharif’s may be heard in one clip indicating that Nawaz ordered him to assist Munir with the “import of gear for a power plant from India.” Sanaullah claimed that Sharif had noticed the “leaks” and had started an investigation.
