According to a government poll, the prominent Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband and the other 305 madrasas in the Saharanpur area are not recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Education Board. Madrasas that the Board does not approve are not eligible for government programs like teacher salaries and scholarships, among others.
There are 754 registered madrasas in Saharanpur, according to Bharat Lal Gaur, the district’s minorities welfare officer, who spoke to PTI on Saturday. He said that there are 306 unrecognized madrasas in the area and that the administration has been informed of this as part of a study on madrasas in the state. He said that the Madarsa Board does not recognize Darul Uloom Deoband.

According to Gaur, the government set 12 parameters as the foundation for the survey of madrasas. The institution has never accepted any type of help or grant from any government, according to a statement from the vice-chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani.

Despite not being registered with the Board, according to him, the seminary carries out educational activities by the Indian Constitution. According to Nomani, Darul Uloom’s “Shura Society” is registered under the Societies Act, and the seminary functions by the Constitution’s guarantee of religious freedom.

He said that despite providing educational services and serving the nation for more than 150 years, Darul Uloom Deoband has never accepted funding or grants from any government. On September 30, 1866, the Islamic Institute of Deobad, Saharanpur, was founded.
