Markets will open for Muhurat trade, BSE and NSE will not be open for trading today in observance of Diwali.

Monday regular trade at the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange will not take place as India celebrates Diwali. But at 6:15 pm for the muhurat trading period, the markets will open for just an hour.

There will be no trading today and on October 26, which is Diwali Balipratipada, according to the Bombay Stock Exchange website. On November 8, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, trade will not be permitted. On account of Diwali, trading in interest rate and currency derivatives will also remain suspended today, according to the BSE website. Following the stock markets’ closure on October 5 for Dussehra, it is the second holiday in the month of October.

The Sensex posted a six-day winning streak on Friday, rising 104 points to close at 59,307 points. The larger NSE Nifty finished at 12.35 points or 0.07 percent higher at 17,576.30.
