‘Has any governor taken such measures?’ Kerala's education minister

Political parties are up in arms as a result of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s orders to the vice chancellors of nine institutions to quit. The state’s education minister claimed the governor’s directive had led to a “unfortunate situation” as the ruling Left Democratic Fund (LDF) announced a series of rallies.

Stressing that she condemns the move, R Bindu, Kerala’s Minister of Higher Education, asked: “Has any governor in the country taken such measures?”

The Governor Khan’s office stated in a tweet that the nine VCs had been ordered to resign by Monday at 11:30 am. In support of his choice, the governor of Kerala referenced a Supreme Court ruling.

The nine universities listed with the tweet include the University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Shree Shankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

Due to a violation of University Grants Commission (UGC) rules, the top court on Friday revoked Dr. Rajasree M. S.’s appointment as vice chancellor of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.
