US Announces $30 Million More In Flood Aid For Pakistan

To assist Pakistan’s flood victims following the historical calamity, the US said Thursday that it would provide the country with another $30 million in flood relief.

According to the US Agency for International Development, the additional support would include the following:

  • Packages to help families get ready for the winter.
  • Emergency food and nutrition.
  • Screening for malnutrition.
  • Assistance with housing.

Samantha Power, the head of USAID, visited Pakistan last month and claimed to have witnessed a “sunken world” due to the floods, which at their worst killed more than 1,700 people and 1.2 million animals and inundated one-third of the nation.

For those who made it, impossibly difficult obstacles still lie ahead. She stated that the damage is still severe, even though the water is receding.

“During this painful moment, the United States continues to stand with the people of Pakistan.”

The help takes the United States, the largest donor, flood relief to Pakistan to $97 million.

Despite Pakistan’s little contribution to global carbon emissions, the country is one of the most vulnerable to climate change. France is hosting a donors summit next month to consider expanding funding to Pakistan.
