Former Zimbabwean sprinter Neeraj Chopra is motivating him to pursue athletics

Henry Olonga, a former Zimbabwean pacer, is getting motivation from Neeraj Chopra to start competing in athletics for fun. Additionally, he mentioned how “inspiring” it was for the sport in general for the great Indian javelin thrower to win gold in the Tokyo Olympics. It’s vital to remember that Olongo was a crucial player for the Zimbabwean men’s cricket team back in the day. He played for his nation in 30 Tests and the same number of ODIs, collecting 126 wickets across all formats.

When I watched Chopra competing at the Olympics, I thought, “Wow! An Indian javelin gold medalist! I was quite moved and felt it was fascinating for India and athletics in general and also for India that there are some good throwers from all over the world. You need to be fit and not be injury prone.

There are numerous similarities to fast bowling, but nothing is as iconic as watching the javelin fly through the air. The 90m is incredibly gorgeous to behold, “told Sportstar, Olonga.

“I want to engage in some leisure activity and a little bit of competitiveness. I intended to join athletics, which I did last year, but I hurt my elbow while fishing. My sporting season was ruined because of the months-long swelling, “Added he.

Olonga continued by expressing his commitment to sports in the following manner: “I’m going to return this year and see what I can do. I’m a guy of 46! However, the state champion threw 50 meters. Therefore I believe I have a chance. It would be nice to go out there, be competitive, and get the girls involved in sports.”

“Man, who knows—you may run across 50-year-old Henry Olonga at the Commonwealth Games! You just never know, he said.

Olonga and his wife have since relocated to Adelaide.

During the 2003 World Cup, Olonga and Andy Flower wore black armbands to show their opposition to what they saw as the “murder of democracy” in Zimbabwe.

“Politics were prevalent. So it wasn’t the best when I decided to leave the squad. It was rude and petty to tell me I couldn’t ride with the team on the bus. They looked to be seeking retribution for my viewpoint, said Olonga.

“I was already past politics when they instructed me to stop doing them. I wouldn’t say it was terrible, but many individuals helped me when I left the squad. One of these events was the Lashings World XI. I relocated to England. The chairman provided me with lodging, “Added he.
