- It is said that Shri Krishna is very pleased with Chappan Bhog. After being pleased, he fulfills every wish of the devotees. However, a legend behind 56 bhogs being offered to its deity is also famous. It has a different importance, it is believed that when little Kanha lived with his mother Yashoda in Gokul Dham.
- During this time, his mother used to give him food every day at eight o’clock. Kanha used to take this food from his mother’s hands. But after this, such a calamity occurred in Gokuldham that Kanha had to remain hungry for several days continuously.
- Gokul residents started getting worried due to continuous rain. On this, to protect the people of Gokul, Krishna lifted Govardhan Parvat on one of his fingers and stood like this for 7 consecutive days, until the rain stopped.
- It is said that he usually ate 8 dishes every day. Therefore, at the end of the seventh day, the people of Vrindavan cooked 56 dishes and served them as Prasad. Since then it became a tradition to serve 56 thali.

56 dishes are included in the offering plate for Shri Krishna. Every year on the night of Janmashtami, in the joy of the birth of God, rice, parika, bilsaru with fennel, laddu, greens, soup, chutney, curry, curd vegetable curry, sikhran, sherbet, balka, ikshu, mathri, feni, puri, Dishes like Ghevar, Malpua, Chola, Jalebi, Rasgulla, Pagi Hui, Maharaita, Thuli, Clove Puri, Khurma, Dalia, Moth, Kheer, Curd, Butter, Malai, Rabdi, Papad etc. are included.
Apart from panjiri, different food items like cereals, fruits, dry fruits, sweets, beverages, namkeens and pickles are also included in 56 Bhog.
