In 1947, after India gained independence, the ‘Param Vir Chakra’ was unveiled to honor the bravery of Indian soldiers in the war. In fact, on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as the Republic Day of India, the PVC was instituted as a gallantry medal by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, with retrospective effect from August 15, 1947.
