Mrs. Rekha Arya is a rising face in the politics of Uttarakhand and India. Presently she is the Minister of Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sports and Youth Welfare in the Government of Uttarakhand. She is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party.
Family and educational background
Rekha Arya was born on December 15, 1978. She was born in Sunadi Pokhri village of Someshwar tehsil of Almora district. His father’s name is Gopal Ram. He was in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Of Rekha Arya’s two brothers, one served in the CRPF and the other in the Indian Army. Rekha Arya was married to Girdhari Lal Sahu. Girdhari Lal Sahu comes from political and business background. This political couple has 2 sons and 1 daughter.
Due to her father being posted in Madhya Pradesh, Rekha Arya received her primary education from M.P. After completing M.Com, Mrs. Rekha Arya did B.Ed. Her dream was to become a teacher but with the passage of time her luck took a turn and she came into politics.
Political Journey
Rekha Arya started her politics at district level. In the year 2003, she contested the District Panchayat elections in Almora in which she won and became the District President. Due to not getting a ticket from the Congress Party in the 2012 Assembly elections, Rekha contested the elections as an independent candidate from Someshwar. He had to face defeat in this election. Although she faced defeat, Rekha secured more than 15,000 votes.
In the by-election of 2014, Rekha Arya reached the Assembly for the first time by winning the election from Congress quota. Before the 2017 assembly elections, Rekha Arya joined BJP and BJP also expressed confidence in her and made her its candidate in the assembly elections by giving her a ticket from Someshwar assembly seat. Rekha Arya won this election. In this election, Rekha Arya got 25260 votes and Congress’s Rajendra Barakoti got 20320 votes. With this he defeated his nearest rival by 710 votes.
In the 2022 assembly elections, Rekha Arya from BJP again registered her presence in the Assembly by defeating Rajendra Barakoti of Congress by a margin of 4,962 votes. In the Dhami government of Uttarakhand in 2022, she was given the charge of the ministries of Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sports and Youth Welfare. Since then she has been working as the Minister of Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sports and Youth Welfare.
