Mobility in the country will be made easier through new national highways and paved roads in villages. The story of the country’s development will be written by strengthening the infrastructure of airports, medical colleges and sports facilities in small cities. The government has allocated Rs 11.11 lakh crore for infrastructure development, which is 3.4 percent of GDP.
The government will build three expressways and a bridge on river Ganga in Bihar under the Purvodaya scheme with Rs 26,000 crore. In this, Patna-Purnia Expressway, Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway, Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Vaishali and Darbhanga Expressway will be built. Besides, a two-lane bridge will also be built on the Ganga river in Buxar. Funds will be provided for essential infrastructure like water, power, railways and roads in Kopparthi area in Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor and Orvakal area in Hyderabad-Bangalore Industrial Corridor in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, new airports, medical colleges and sports infrastructure will be developed in Bihar. Transit oriented development plans will be started in 14 big cities with a population of more than 30 lakh. In the field of water management, water supply, sewage treatment and solid waste management projects and services will be promoted for 100 big cities through bankable projects.
Private investment will be increased: Private sector investment in infrastructure will be encouraged. The government will provide assistance to the states as per their development priorities. This year too, a provision of long term interest free loan of Rs 1.5 lakh crore has been made to help the states in their resource allocation.
Help to five states for flood management
The government will provide help to five states including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for flood management. Floods occur frequently in Bihar. Plans to build flood control structures in Nepal have not yet progressed. The government will provide financial assistance at an estimated cost of Rs 11,500 crore. Assam will get assistance for flood management and related projects. Himachal, which suffered extensive damage due to floods, will also get support for reconstruction through multilateral assistance. Apart from this, necessary assistance will be provided to Uttarakhand and Sikkim which have suffered a lot of damage due to landslides and cloud bursts.
Weekly markets will start in cities
The government has prepared a blueprint for special schemes including weekly haats for urban infrastructure development. 100 weekly ‘haats’ or street food hubs will be developed in select cities. Transit oriented development plans will be started for 14 big cities with a population of more than 30 lakh. In the field of water management, water supply, sewage treatment and solid waste management projects and services will be promoted for 100 big cities through bankable projects.
A special pool of Rs 1 lakh crore will be created for innovation
It has been announced to create a financing pool of Rs 1 lakh crore to promote innovation. A National Research Fund will also be set up for basic research and prototype development. The policy document will be prepared to maintain high resource efficient economic growth along with affordable energy security. This will enable a balance to be maintained between the need for employment, development and environmental sustainability. Development of indigenous technology for Advanced Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) thermal power plants with better efficiency has been completed.
