Although the mortality rate is not that high, the rapid spread cannot be taken lightly. The nation is also gearing up for the vaccination of children which will begin from today.

The government of West Bengal has announced fresh curbs in the state including the operation of shopping malls, cinema halls, and restaurants at only 50 percent capacity and to stay open till 10 pm only. New restrictions have been put in place for 10 days to control the situation of COVID.  Delhi government has also taken stringent measures including the closing of two weekly markets in the North East area for violating the Covid guidelines issued by the government. Chief Minister Kejriwal has given a statement saying that most cases in the third wave are very mild and do not need hospitalization. He stated that there is nothing to panic over but Covid appropriate behavior including social distancing, mask-wearing in public places have to be followed strictly.

The state governments are also preparing hospital beds, medicines, oxygen plants, and faster vaccination drives in their respective states.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the chief of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said in his message on the New Year that the pandemic will only end this year if the world ends inequity together.
