The nation reported 1,67,059 fresh cases of Coronavirus along with 1192 fatalities in the last 24 hours as per a government bulletin reported on Tuesday. The number of Coronavirus infections have gone down but there is a spike in the daily deaths. The number of cases reported yesterday was 2.09 lakh.

The active caseload of the nation currently stands at 17,43,059 which is 4.20 per cent of the overall cases reported in the country. The recovery rate of India is 94.60 per cent and the daily positivity rate has been reported at 11.69 per cent, as per the bulletin. The weekly positivity rate of the nation currently stands at 15.25 per cent.

The total number of recoveries that have been reported across the country is 2,54,076 in the last 24 hours taking the overall tally of recovered patients to 3,92,30,198. India continues to rank the second-worst hit by Coronavirus in the world, after the United States of America. 

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has gone up to 4.96 lakh including a backlog of 638 deaths in the state of Kerala. Maharashtra, the state that has been leading in the number of cases in the third wave of the pandemic, reported 15,140 new cases of the virus. This is 7304 less than yesterday’s number of cases. The state has also reported 39 fatalities. The active cases in Maharashtra now stand at 2,07,350.

The national capital has recorded only 2779 fresh infections, on Monday, 24 per cent less than the previous day’s figure. Delhi has been seeing a decrease in the number of daily infections after the cases peaked on January 13 when it touched around 28,867 cases in one day. In South India, Karnataka has witnessed 24,000 daily cases yesterday including 10,000 cases from Bengaluru. The rapid surge in the number of cases in the state has been worrisome in the first month of 2022. 

Kerala reported 42,154 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Monday, after logging 50,000 cases a day prior. The active caseload of the state is at 60,25,669 now. The death count backlog of Kerala has been surging the daily fatalities for the past few days. 

The vaccination drive of the nation has crossed 166.68 crore doses, making 75 per cent of the adult population fully vaccinated. The second dose for the children in the age group of 15-18 years will begin soon as well.
