On Wednesday, the White House had made a major announcement stating that Russia could invade Ukraine at any time now as President Joe Biden also announced that Vice-President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State, Tony Blinken would be attending the conference in Munich with the world leaders and unite them against Russia.

Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary had anticipated that an attack could take place at any time and that the attack would probably be preceded by a fabricated pretext that will be used by Moscow to launch an invasion on Ukraine. She went on to say that these tactics had been used in the past before as well. These could include claims of provocation in Donbas, false media reports. She urged everyone to keep their eyes open and be aware of the fake videos that might go viral on social media platforms or the accusations about Chemical Weapons or maybe fake accounts of Russian Soldiers being attacked. She also told the reporters that there could be a wide range of false flags that could be used as pretexts that would eventually lead to an invasion of Ukraine.

Both Vice-President and Secretary of State of the United States are now flying to Germany to attend the Security Conference that will be held in Munich from February 18 to February 20. As per the statement by Psaki, the Vice-President will be building on the President’s and the national security team’s intensive engagement with the allies in Europe and would be continuing to emphasise their ironclad commitment to their NATO allies which was their underscore commitment to the sovereignty and security of Ukraine. Harris would also be reaffirming the United States’ shared interest in upholding the principles that are underpinned the peace and security of Europe.

The top diplomats would be participating in the formal programme of the conference and engaging with allies and meeting with the leaders. The Kremlin is still adamant about its statement saying that it has no plans of invading Ukraine but it has also demanded that NATO must never admit Ukraine and other former Soviet Union nations as members. Russia has also demanded that the West should pull back their military troop deployments from Eastern Europe.

Earlier on Thursday, the Secretary of State, Blinken had stated that the Russian troops have been deployed in a very threatening way near the borders of Ukraine but the door is still wide open for the diplomatic talks with Russia.

Contrary to the statements made by Moscow, there had been no evidence of the pulling back of military troops near the Ukrainian borders. Ukraine had made a statement stating that it would only believe Russia is serious about the de-escalation of tension if it were to withdraw its troops from the borders including the military hardware and weapons as well along with the military forces that were deployed in Belarus for drills. As per the official reports by the Ukrainian military, around 140,000 Russian military troops have been deployed near the Ukrainian borders including 125,000 ground troops.
