On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate arrested the leader of NCP and Maharashtrian minister Nawab malik on the charges of active involvement in terror funding and money laundering.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been investigating Nawab Malik for a property deal that he was a part of with Haseena Parker, the sister of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. There have been allegations that Nawab had bought this property which is around 3 acres of land located at the Goawala Compound on LBS Marg in Kurla in Mumbai for around Rs.85 lakh out of which Rs. 30 lakh was shown in the agreement of the sale and the rest was paid in cash.
It has been alleged by the ED that the registered value of the property bought by malik was much lower than the prevailing market rate. As per the reports by the ED, Haseena had transferred her interest in the said property through Salim Patel for the benefit of Malik in 2005 and it was also claimed that Sardar Shahwali Khan who is known to have underworld links has also played a significant role in the sale of the property.
According to the remand application filed by the ED in the court, this piece of land by originally owned by Munira Plumber and was then seized from her by Haseena along with her frontman Mohammed Salis Ishaq Khan also known as Salim Patel, who also has alleged links in the underworld, through a forged POA (Power of Attorney) in the name of Patel. The document then gave Patel the rights to sell Munira’s land. As per Plumber’s statement to the ED, she had never approached Nawab Malik for the sale and she got to know about it last year only through media reports. The ED has also alleged that the total value of the land in the sale agreement is only Rs.30 lakh and has said that Malik had introduced fake tenants to lower the registry value of the property.
Among the two men who have been also linked to the underworld, Shahawali Khan has been serving a life term in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and is said to have been an active part of the team that was given firearms training by the alleged mastermind Tiger Menon. He is also said to have done a recce of the Bombay Stock Exchange and BMC to decide where the bombs could be placed. Back in June 2007, he was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment and at present, he is currently in Aurangabad Jail. The property deal had taken place in September 2005. The other man who has been linked to the underworld is named Salim Patel who was the bodyguard and driver of Parker.
