Coming this Wednesday, India will start the vaccination drive for children aged 12 to 14 years. With this, GOI is ready to expand the COVID-19 vaccination coverage and put many parents at ease with the new regular of offline classes and exams being circulated in the upcoming academic session.
The vaccination drive will start from March 16 and the vaccination used for children aged 12-14 years will be Corbevax. For this, GOI has procured 5 crore vaccine doses after gaining approval for use. Besides this, the condition of co-morbidity for 60 years or older to get booster or “precaution dose” has also been removed by the Indian government. Now, it is advised for everyone in the age category to get booster shots.
With this, around 6.5 crore youngsters come in the range of the mentioned age group and all were now to be given Corbevax dose starting tomorrow. Apart from Corbevax and Covaxin, Covovax and ZyCov-D have also gained the EUA approval use in those 12 years or above.
“If children are safe, then the country is safe,” Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was found expressing his thoughts on youngsters’ vaccination drive. He announced with great delight the start of a vaccination drive for the children within the age group of 12 to 14 years. He requested parents and guardians of these youngsters to come forth and actively take part in this vaccination journey. He expressed his motion on removing the restriction on the people of age group 60 or above and have humbly asked the people to get their booster shot done with the youngsters in line.
At present, Covid vaccination is permitted to people of age 15 or above. The vaccination initially started with the 18+ age group but now it is focussing on providing aid against COVID-19 to the younger generation too. The fall in academics and the fear behind offline examinations may have been a supporting vector behind India’s drive to actively work towards providing the proper vaccine to young minds.
Currently, Covaxin has been already administered to adolescents of age 15-17 years. The GOI is steadily but gradually trying to expand the vaccination drive as it works through the pharmaceutical companies in getting a better and amplified vaccine against Covid for younger people.
