World Blood Donor Day 2022

Every year on June 14th, World Blood Donor Day is commemorated. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of blood donation. The World Health Organization (WHO) started it in 2004. (WHO).

“Donating blood is a gesture of solidarity,” is this year’s theme. “Join the effort and save lives,” he says, emphasizing the importance of increasing the number of contributors.

Donated blood can aid in the treatment and support of those who are afflicted with chronic illnesses and consequences. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance and urgency of blood donation has grown substantially. As the scarcity of donated blood worsens, it’s critical to understand how one can help.

The purpose of the Day is to:

support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations, and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns; raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion; highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems; and support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations, and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

The day also serves as a call to action for governments and national health authorities to allocate sufficient resources to increase the collection of blood from unpaid volunteers and to manage access to blood and transfusions for those who require it.

The campaign’s particular goals for this year are to:

Thank blood donors around the world and raise public awareness about the importance of regular, unpaid blood donation; emphasize the need for consistent, year-round blood donation to maintain adequate supplies and ensure universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion; recognise and promote the value of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion; raise awareness about the need for increased government investment to build a global blood supply; raise awareness about the need for increased government investment to build a global blood supply; raise awareness about the need for increased government investment
