Congress submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to withdraw the defence recruitment scheme while protesting against the Centre’s ‘Agnipath Yojana’ for the armed forces, workers and activists from the Congress party took part in a nationwide ‘satyagraha’ at more than 3,500 assembly headquarters.
“We demand that the BJP government should not weaken national security by implementing this scheme. The government should provide security, not insecurity, to the lakhs of men and women who aspire to serve the nation by joining the armed forces. We urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to end his arrogance and accede to what the youths demand,” party spokesperson Mohan Prakash said.
Congress also demanded that the “large number of innocent youths” who are in jail for protesting against the scheme should be released, or else the party will continue its protest in Parliament.
