The discussion between the commanders of the Indian and Chinese corps will probably lead to the removal of troops from Patrolling Point 15 soon. On Sunday, India and China held their 16th round of high-level military negotiations.
The Chinese may withdraw back towards the north in Chinese territory, while the Indian side may shift its posture from the friction point towards the Karam Singh Hill feature, according to high government sources. They promised that the monitoring procedures for the area, which might function as a buffer zone, would be completed soon.
Since the Chinese military attempted to alter the status quo on the LAC in Eastern Ladakh in May 2020, both sides have been stationed next to one another near Patrolling Point 15, which has become a source of contention.
The standoff at Patrol Point 17A in Gogra was only partially resolved after the last troop disengagement on the LAC, which took place a year ago. Additionally, China and India removed their forces from the Pangong Tso’s opposing banks.
Since tensions deteriorated in May 2020, some 50 soldiers from each of the two nations have been stationed within a kilometre of the flashpoint.
The two parties continued their discussions for the resolution of the pertinent issues along the LAC in the Western Sector in a positive and forward-looking manner, building on the progress made at the last meeting on March 11, 2022.
