Amit Shah, the union home minister, urged Indians on Tuesday to enthusiastically take part in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign to let the world know that India had “risen from slumber.” He claimed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction, the nation is making rapid progress and is headed in the direction of becoming a “great” power.
Speaking to a crowd during the “Tiranga Utsav” celebration of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, he added that since 2014, Modi’s leadership had been constructing a “Naya Bharat” in accordance with his vision.
To honour the heritage of independence fighter Pingali Venkayya, who also created the Indian flag, the Ministry of Culture sponsored the massive ceremony in the evening.
Amit Shah urged people, especially young people, to follow PM Modi’s advice and change their profile pictures on social media platforms from August 2 forward to the tricolour. He also encouraged people to take selfies with the flag from August 13–15 as part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign and post them to the campaign’s website. Amit Shah addressed the large crowd gathered at Indira Gandhi Stadium and said, “By doing so, you would also be paying honour to Venkayya who designed the flag for the country and the troops who have laid their lives down for India.”
Ragini Makkhar and her group, as well as singers Kailash Kher and Harshdeep Kaur, gave live performances during the musical event. The occasion also commemorated Venkayya’s 146th birthday, who is credited with creating India’s national flag.
The home minister urged people to fly flags from August 13 to 15 with tremendous excitement to let the world know that India has emerged from its slumber, is moving forward quickly, and is headed in the direction of greatness.
