In a movie about the Indian partition, the BJP criticises Jawaharlal Nehru while Congress refers to Savarkar

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released a film describing its version of the events that led to the partition of India in 1947 in an apparent jab at the Congress and former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and to commemorate the second “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.”

The seven-minute video accuses Nehru of creating Pakistan by caving in to the demands of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah-led Muslim League. It is an expertly edited combination of historical footage and dramatised images of the partition set to moving music.

Jairam Ramesh, a member of Congress, responded by claiming that PM Modi really intended to designate August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in order to utilise the horrific incidents as ammunition in his ongoing political conflicts.

In what could be interpreted as a response to the film, Ramesh declared that the Congress would keep working to bring India together while preserving the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhai Patel.

The Congress leader added that Jinnah polished the two-nation theory, but Savarkar created it.

Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT cell, responded by claiming that Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, originally proposed the two-nation thesis in 1876, long before Savarkar was even born.

In an effort to raise awareness among young people about the suffering and sacrifices made by freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence, Prime Minister Modi stated last year that August 14 will be marked as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day every year. The Prime Minister also tweeted the video this morning to commemorate the occasion.
