With the Monday commissioning of the 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at NTPC Kawas, Gujarat, NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated energy company, reached 69454 MW of group installed and commercial capacity. According to a statement from the Ministry of Power, NTPC is gradually reducing its carbon footprint by cutting greenhouse gas emissions by installing renewable energy projects in its current stations as well as constructing new RE projects.
The company has installed about 9,50,000 PV modules at its various stations, out of which 242 MW has been commissioned, to create 262 MW of floating solar on more than 1300 acres of its reservoir area.
The largest floating solar project in the nation, with a capacity of 100 MW, is located at Ramagundam, Telangana. Another project with a capacity of 92 MW is located in Kayamkulam, Kerala.
The ministry added that these initiatives would contribute to the annual reduction of over 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and the lighting of over 200,000 homes. In addition to this, the projects would save 5 trillion litres of water annually, which is enough to supply 15,000 households with water for a year.
NTPC currently has 2.3 GW of operational renewable capacity, while another 3.9 GW is being implemented and put into operation. The largest power producer in India, NTPC, is now in the process of awarding contracts for 4.9 GW of renewable energy capacity.
