According to officials, Kota, Jhalawar, and adjacent districts in Rajasthan are experiencing flood-like conditions as a result of the recent heavy rainfall. They added that some 60 individuals were relocated to safer locations while schools and coaching facilities in Kota and Bundi remained closed on Monday. Low-lying regions were sunk under water as a result of the downpour and water released from the Kota barrage, they claimed.
After 14 of the Kota barrage’s 19 gates opened, a total of 3.83 lakh cusec of water was discharged. According to officials, 2.8 lakh cusec of water from the Kalisindh dam in Jhalawar and 25,200 cusec of water from the Bhim Sagar dam in Jhalawar were discharged simultaneously. A seven-foot-long crocodile that was spotted in a residential area in Kota’s Pragati Nagar caused concern among the people, but the creature was saved. The 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday saw unusually high rainfall, according to the meteorological department, in a few isolated locations in Kota and Jhalawar district. According to officials, 224 mm of rain fell in Kota City and 234 mm in Dag in Jhalawar during this time.
According to a representative of the Kota district government, rainfall in the catchment areas of the Rana Pratap Sagar (Chittorgarh) and Jawahar Sagar (Kota) dams boosted the amount of water entering the Kota barrage on the Chambal River. According to them, 13 of the 19 gates were opened yesterday night to let the water out, and a further gate was opened on Monday. From the barrage, water has already been released at a rate of around 3.83 lakh cusec.
In Jhalawar, a similar action was conducted to discharge extra water from dams. Water invaded homes at a number of locations in Kota, including Talwandi, Purana Kota, Bajrang Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, station road, and Balaji Nagar, causing a terrifying commute for people. According to the official, about 60 individuals were relocated from low-lying Kota neighbourhoods such Anantpura, Balaji Nagar, Tirupati Vihar, and Kautilya Nagar.
On Monday morning, Collector O P Bunkar made site inspections to Nayapura Kacchi Basit and Balita Road and gave officials the necessary instructions to prepare for the heavy rain warning and barrage water release. A lot of locations in Bundi, Baran, Chittorgarh, Sawaimadhopur, Dausa, and Karauli also had heavy to extremely high rains in addition to Kota and Jhalawar.
East Rajasthan has had widespread rain during the past 24 hours. On Monday, there could be severe to very heavy rain in remote areas of east Rajasthan and heavy rain in remote areas of west Rajasthan, according to the Met department’s warning.
