The Kartavya Path has been separated into eight zones by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and 16 teams of 32 civic employees from the public health and enforcement ministries have been deployed across two shifts to stop littering, spitting, and illegal hawking. The teams, which have the authority to levy fines between $50 and $2,000, will have the help of 32 civil defence volunteers. The teams have fined 95 people as of Wednesday and seized 95 items, including ice chests, products, and ice cream carts.

The teams will concentrate on violations, clearing encroachments, and monitoring the activity of authorised vendors, according to an NDMC official. They will also pay attention to nearby roads and landmarks, including those near the Central Secretariat metro station, Man Singh Road, RP Road, and Udyog Bhawan, in addition to the main avenue.

The formation of the enforcement squads for the efficient implementation of the laws on the Kartavya Path and C-hexagon was ordered by NDMC secretary Vikram Singh Malik on Tuesday.

“District Magistrate, New Delhi district, is also requested to ensure that the deployment of civil defence volunteers for duty in these areas is rationalized as per the zonal plan so as to ensure that two civil defence volunteers per zone per shift are available to assist the teams,” Malik said in a letter.

Under the direction of a chief medical officer and deputy director, the teams will be in operation from 6:00am to 10:00pm (enforcement).

In addition to taking possession of soft drink trucks, water pumps, and other vending machines, the NDMC claimed to have removed 57 encroachments and 167 items from the Kartavya Path as of Wednesday.

On Saturday, Satish Upadhyay, vice chairman of the NDMC, announced that the municipal organisation had started the process of approving 120 street vendors to serve ice cream, water, and other goods in the renovated area.

In 2020, the neighbourhood underwent reconstruction, which included the removal of street vendors. Snack sales have designated areas that have been created on both sides of Kartavya Path. On the front lawns between Man Singh Road and C-Hexagon, vendors will no longer be permitted to sell food.

When the stretch was given to the Central Public Works Department in 2018 for the rehabilitation work, more than 200 merchants were in operation. Seven vending zones can be found in the redesigned Central Vista, two of which are located close to India Gate at C-Hexagon. Each of the five of them has room for forty vendors. There will also be two amenities blocks with 16 stores near India Gate.
