According to the information, today is Utkal Day. 1 April is an unforgettable day in the history of Odisha. It is a day of pride for every Odia. On this day Odisha became the first language-based state in the country. Every year people of Oriya community celebrate 1st April as Utkal Day.
In 1568, the sun of independent Odisha had set with the defeat of Mukundadev, the last king of Odisha in the war. Odisha was captured by the British in 1803. After this, the brave sons of Odisha created the possibility of sunrise of independent Odisha and 1 Odisha became an independent state in April, 1936. On the same day, the British Government had approved the formation of a separate Utkal Pradesh on the basis of language. Since then 1 April is known as Utkal Day.
