On Saturday, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena opened 15 model smart schools and presented regularisation letters to 187 contract sanitation workers. Saxena reaffirmed his promise to upgrade all primary schools managed by the city authority before the end of the year.
Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, MCD Special Officer Ashwini Kumar, MCD Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, and others attended the opening ceremony at the Municipal Corporation Primary Co-educational School, Sector-8 in R K Puram. The opening of 15 smart schools marks the start of a new chapter that will eventually see all of the MCD's schools rise to the top of their respective fields, according to Mr. Saxena, who spoke at the event.
The latest buildings, furnishings, and interactive learning pedagogy are all available in MCD's smart schools. "These institutions demonstrate the forward-thinking and constructive changes that are occurring in basic education. Even at the primary level, computer instruction has been ingrained in the educational system. By the end of this year, we hope to expand this effort to 1,000 additional MCD schools "said he.
The lieutenant governor presented regularisation letters to 187 sanitation workers hired between 1998 and 2000 at another event held at the MCD headquarters. He also signalled the start of a "Tiranga Rally" to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which honours India's 75th anniversary of freedom.
It is a historic day because we will have achieved 75 years of independence in two days. The nearly 22-year wait is now ended as 187 "Swachhta Sainiks" are being regularised today. In the future, the MCD will regularise the other daily wage sanitation workers in opposition to the open positions in a staggered way, Mr. Saxena added.
In 1978, the MCD had developed a policy for the regularisation of sanitation workers. The MCD would gradually regularise the services of sanitation staff, it was agreed. The approach resulted in the regularisation of temporary sanitation workers in 1978, 1982, 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and in 2016.
On the basis of compassion, the MCD has hired 109 dependents of deceased municipal workers in the Engineering department. According to him, the civic organisation has employed 2,810 people over the past ten years on the basis of compassion.
