National Testing Agency will soon be conducting the yearly CUET (Common University Entrance Test) for around 1.8 lakh seats, allocated across 45 central universities and constituent colleges. The class 12th pass-out will have to look out for this year's schematic set up by NTA under CUET 2022.
Now no longer will admission in central university colleges will be based on the Class 12th scoresheet. The students will have to give CUET exam and score well to get into their desired colleges under desired courses.
The catch here, however, is that students will be allowed to give exams only in those subjects that they opted/ studied in Class XII. This will not hinder their chance of choosing their desired course. Students can opt for different streams or subjects. Each subject's marks in the NTA exam will help the student to choose a subject of their choice, with the use of various permutations and combinations.
Under CUET, no common counseling will be conducted, as so in JEE and NEET exams. The central universities will be given the authority to set up their criteria for admission under different courses, whereas the exam rules set under CUET will remain the same for the UG aspirants.
After CUET, it will be under the university's authority to conduct individual counseling by using the NTA scorecard and releasing a merit list for those candidates who opted for that particular university during registration. The CUET 2022 will be conducted in two shifts in several phases. The exam will most likely go for 5- 7 days continuous in the first week of July. However, the dates are not yet fixed as they may change depending upon the total number of applicants who have registered for the CUET exam.
The registration for CUET will occur at the NTA portal. Students are advised to put the correct information in the application form to avoid further misunderstanding at the time of examination and admission process. There is no cap on the number of courses and university a student select and apply for. The exam will have one language and up to 6 domain subjects as its syllabus. There will be one additional language paper besides the main language exam and a general aptitude test will also be included in the overall examination.
In total, there will be 9 tests in CUET 2022. If applying for the same course, eligibility criteria may vary from university to university. Students can go for a common list of subjects to have a better chance of admission later on. If the student wishes to go for another stream, the exam will be constituted of subjects the student studied in his higher secondary education. However, marks, in this case, will be calculated using different permutations and combinations to get an admission in a different stream.
