Grammys 2022 held on Monday in Las Vegas. The 64th Academy Awards have a Memoriam section in which it pays tribute to the singers and artists who are not with us anymore. This year, the Grammys paid homage to several artists, including musical theatre legend Stephen Sondheim, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, designer Virgil Abloh and actor Betty Davis.
Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary playback singer is the most beloved singer in India. She died on February 6 in Mumbai. She died at the age of 92. She was often called the “ nightingale of Bollywood”.
The absence of the singer in the Memoriam section left the Indian fans disappointed. The fans are lashing out on Twitter calling out grammy for missing the music icon in the Memoriam segment. People were not expecting grammy to exclude Lata Mangeshkar's tribute as it called itself “ music biggest night”.
“Genuinely surprised that no tribute was paid to Lata Mangeshkar at the Grammys. She was an artist in the absolute purest form and has been so influential in South Asian music ... and her career spanned 7+ decades”- a Twitter user stated.
Like grammy, the Oscars also failed to pay tribute to the legends of the entertainment industry Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar, Lahiri and lata Mangeshkar itself.
“Both the Oscars and Grammy awards claim to promote diversity but surprisingly none of them bothered to showcase Lata Mangeshkar in their section to remember artists who are no longer with us.” a Fan on Twitter said.
“No Lata Mangeshkar in the Grammys In Memoriam… This is such a Shame! How do you even miss out on arguably the most prolific singer in the world? @RecordingAcad Do better!” The ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the Grammys paid tributes to the legendary drummer of Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins, Hollywood acting greats Sidney Poitier and Betty White, singer-actors Meat Loaf, Vicente Fernandez, jazz composer Chick Corea, among many others.- other Twitter post read.
