Baisakhi, the agricultural festival of happiness and prosperity, is on 14 April. People of Sikh community celebrate Baisakhi as New Year. On this day people thank God by duly worshiping grains. After this, they celebrate happiness together with friends, relatives and close ones. At the same time, they sweeten each other’s mouth by distributing sweets. It is a religious belief that Bhagwan Brahma created the universe on the day of Baisakhi. That’s why the Baisakhi festival has special importance.

  • According to historians, on the day of Baisakhi, the tenth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa Panth. The Khalsa Panth was founded by Guru Gobind Singh in a meeting at Anandpur Sahib on 13 April 1699.
  • Turning the pages of history, it is known that in 1875, on the day of Baisakhi, Swami Dayanand Saraswati had established the Arya Samaj. This day is special for this. People of Arya Samaj also celebrate on the day of Baisakhi.
  • On the day of Baisakhi, Bihu is celebrated in Assam, Poila Baisakh in Bengal, Sattuan in Bihar, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu and Vishu in Kerala. For this, there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm and enthusiasm throughout the country on the day of Baisakhi. People celebrate the festival of Baisakhi with enthusiasm.
  • Baisakhi is also called ‘Thanksgiving Day’. It is believed that on the day of Baisakhi, farmers across the country, including Punjab and Haryana, pray to God and thank him. Also pray for the welfare of the whole world.
  • The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on the day of Baisakhi. According to historians, on April 13, 1919, General Dyer opened fire on people celebrating Baisakhi. Hundreds of people died in this attack.
  • It is a religious belief that on the day of Baisakhi, Mother Ganga descended on the earth. By taking a bath in the river Ganges, all the sins of a person are cut off. In simple words, a person becomes free from sin. Therefore, the day of Baisakhi is very auspicious.
  • In Sanatan Dharma, the solar year begins with the entry of the Sun into Aries. This year, on the day of Baisakhi, the Sun will leave Pisces and enter Aries. Hence Mesha Sankranti will be celebrated on the day of Baisakhi.
