On Thursday night, a colossal avalanche struck the slopes around the revered Kedarnath temple. The occurrence happened within the Chorabari Glacier’s catchment area, which is around 5 kilometers away from the Kedarnath shrine.
The enormous snowball is seen growing as it travels across the mountains behind the monument in a video that has gone popular online.
The Rudraprayag administration told ANI that no damage was recorded due to this, but they also claimed that they are monitoring the region and keeping a watch on it.
This happened after a sudden landslide in Rudraprayag caused debris from a hill near Tarsali hamlet to fall onto the National Highway (NH) – 109, blocking it and causing lengthy traffic backups.
Separately, the weather forecasting agency stated in its All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulleting that “the current spell of rainfall is likely to continue over northwest India for the next few days followed by a reduction after that” due to “a western disturbance as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies run roughly.”
Additionally, it stated that in the upcoming days, heavy rain is predicted to fall in isolated locations over Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
