Fewer Indian cities have already received 5G services as of this month, and more are anticipated in the months to come. At least four cities in Odisha will have 5G by March 2023, according to Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. By the end of the following year, it will be fully accessible throughout the state, according to the government official.
According to Vaishnaw, the government intends to expand the 5G network to other towns and rural areas after it covers more than 200 cities by March of 2019. Currently, it is uncertain what these cities' names are. 13 significant cities would get 5G first, according to initial statements from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). However, this didn't occur.
Only four cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi, were the first to receive 5G services from Reliance Jio. On the other side, Airtel succeeded in expanding the availability of 5G. These are Chennai, Delhi, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Mumbai. The telcos did state that they will expand 5G support when more cities become 5G ready.
A maximum data transfer speed of up to 20Gbps per second, or more than 100Mbps per second, is claimed for 5G. In contrast, 4G may deliver speeds of up to 1Gbps. We conducted testing during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) event, and Airtel 5G provided us with download and upload speeds of 306 Mbps and 25.4 Mbps, respectively. However, 4G only offered us download speeds of 50.5 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.87 Mbps.
There are no specifics available yet regarding Vodafone Idea's 5G services. Because telecoms are conducting 5G testing across India, no company has yet disclosed the prices of their 5G plans, thus it is now providing the newest network for free.
