In response to the bridge collapse tragedy that resulted in 135 fatalities, the Gujarat government has suspended Sandipsinh Zala as Chief Officer of Morbi Municipality, a top official announced today.
In Gujarat’s Morbi town, a suspension bridge constructed during the British era fell across the Machchhu River on Sunday night. Women and children were among those lost in the tragedy.
GT Pandya, the district collector for Morbi, said that Sandipsinh Zala, the chief officer of the Morbi Municipality, had been suspended by the state Urban Development Department.
He stated that up till further orders, the Resident Additional Collector of Morbi has been assigned the additional responsibility of the Chief Officer.
According to authorities, Morbi Municipality awarded the Oreva group a 15-year contract for the repair and upkeep of its bridges.
Nine people have been detained by police concerning the bridge fall event thus far.
