Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned amid the ongoing tension and unrest in Bangladesh. Amidst the ongoing student protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina along with her sister left the country in a military helicopter on Monday afternoon and went to a safe place. According to sources, soon after the Bangladeshi C-130 aircraft entered Indian airspace, Indian Air Force fighter planes took to the air and kept an eye on it for some time. The Indian Air Force and the Indian Army were ready to deal with any contingency.
According to Bangladesh media reports, Sheikh Hasina left the Prime Minister’s residence at around 2.30 pm on Monday. She along with her sister took a flight in a military helicopter and left for a safe place. Speaking to ANI, a senior official of Bangladesh PM Office said, ‘After the violence, PM Sheikh Hasina has left her official residence in Dhaka. There is no information about his whereabouts at present. The situation in Dhaka is very delicate and the PM’s residence has been surrounded by the crowd.
106 people have died, BSF issued high alert
The Army Chief of Bangladesh has said in the press conference, ‘You people maintain peace, we will form an interim government. All of you should be patient and patient. The economy is suffering losses. There was a meeting with people from civil society. The army will work to maintain peace. More than 106 people have died in anti-government protests since Sunday. Meanwhile, amid the ongoing tension in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a high alert on the India and Bangladesh border. DG BSF is currently on a tour of West Bengal.
Reason for Controversy in Bangladesh?
Private channels reported that Hasina had faced widespread protests against her government over a controversial reservation system. Under this controversial reservation system, there is a provision to give 30 percent reservation in government jobs to the relatives of people who took part in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
