Amidst a flurry of developments around the Supreme Court's judicial appointments, Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has proposed Justice DY Chandrachud to succeed him.
Justice Chandrachud has received a letter of recommendation from Chief Justice Lalit, who will retire on November 8.
The Chief Justice had been asked to nominate his successor in a letter sent to him by the Union Law Ministry on October 7. It made an uncommon maneuver.
The tenure of Justice Chandrachud, expected to become India's 50th Chief Justice, is two years. His retirement date is November 10, 2024.
