PM Modi’s call at the Interpol general assembly: “Let’s defeat terrorism worldwide”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 90th Interpol general assembly in New Delhi, which was attended by delegations from 195 member nations. These delegations included ministers, national police chiefs, heads of national central offices, and senior police personnel.

“Interpol is approaching a historic milestone. In 2023, it will celebrate its 100 years. This is a call for universal cooperation to make the world a better place. India is one of the top contributors towards UN Peacekeeping Operations,” Modi said.

“Time to look ahead and also look at the past. Our Vedas say let noble thoughts come from all directions and India believes in global cooperation,” Modi made this statement during the opening of the Interpol general session.

“When nations and societies are becoming inward-looking, India calls for greater world cooperation… When threats are global, the response can't be local. It's high time, the world should come together to defeat these threats,” Modi said.

According to Modi, Interpol can prevent the exploitation of the proceeds of crime derived from organised crime and corruption by accelerating the process of issuing red notices against fugitives. Additionally, Modi issued commemorative postal stamps and coins with a face value of 100 rupees. Delegations from 195 member countries of Interpol, including ministers, heads of national central offices, and top police personnel, will attend the summit.

The top governing body of Interpol, the general assembly, convenes once a year to make significant decisions about how the organisation will operate. The last time the summit was conducted in India was in 1997, therefore there has been a lapse of almost 25 years.

The Interpol general assembly was unanimously approved by the assembly in 2022 in New Delhi, India, to coincide with celebrations for the country's 75th anniversary of independence. According to the statement, the event offers a chance to present to the entire world the best techniques used in India's law and order system.
