Prime Minister on President Droupadi Murmu's Oath: "Watershed Moment for India"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “The whole country watched with pride as Droupadi Murmu ji took the oath as the President of India.”

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the swearing-in of President Droupadi Murmu to the highest constitutional position in the nation “is a watershed moment for India, especially for the impoverished, marginalized, and underprivileged.”

After beating opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha on Thursday, President Murmu, 64, created history by becoming the second woman and the first tribal leader to hold the highest constitutional position.

“Droupadi Murmu ji’s oath of office was proudly seen by the entire country. Her election to the presidency marks a turning point for India, particularly for the underprivileged and marginalized. I wish her nothing but success while she serves as president, “PM Modi tweeted.

In 2015, President Murmu became the first female governor of Jharkhand and hailed from Rairangpur in Odisha. President Murmu, a two-time BJP member from Odisha, served as a minister in Naveen Patnaik’s administration during the Biju Janata Dal or BJD’s governance of the state with the backing of the BJP.

She has a wide range of administrative expertise, having worked in the Odisha government’s transport, commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry ministries. She began her political career as a councilwoman and eventually rose to the position of vice chair of the Rairangpur National Advisory Council.

This morning, President Murmu received the oath from Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

President Murmu stated in her statement following the oath: “My victory in the election demonstrates the power of Indian poverty to inspire and realize dreams. My dream was to complete my basic schooling.”

“I want to encourage the young people to set the groundwork for the nation’s future and themselves. You have my complete support as President. “She stated.
