A 6-fold rise in Corona cases witnessed in India

The nation saw a single-day rise of 1,79,723 fresh COVID cases, which has pushed the overall tally of corona cases to 3.57 crore. 4033 cases amongst these are attributed to the Omicron variant which has gripped 27 states and union territories. 167 deaths have been reported due to the Omicron variant of Coronavirus.

India’s recovery has gone down to 96 percent and the active cases are at 2.03 percent of the total infections reported. In the last 24 hours, 1,33,008 cases have been recorded according to the Union Health Ministry data updates. The daily positivity rate and the weekly positivity rate are at 13.39 percent and 7.92 percent respectively. The vaccination drive has successfully administered the doses to 151.94 crore people across the country.

The most number of cases have been reported from the state of Maharashtra where 44,388 new cases and 12 deaths have been recorded on Sunday. The state tally has now risen up to 69,20,044 cases including 2,02,259 active cases making it the worst-hit state from the virus. The state of Uttar Pradesh where elections are due next month has seen a significant jump in cases with a 1300 percent increase.

The precautionary shots for healthcare workers and frontline workers and those who are above 60 years of age with comorbidities will begin today. Prime Minister Modi announced the administration of these doses on December 25. This decision was taken in the wake of the Omicron variant engulfing the country. The number of cases of Coronavirus is once again increasing at an alarming rate.

People who have been fully vaccinated and are eligible can directly go for the precautionary shot. The only condition for eligible people is that there should be a gap of 9 months between the second dose and the precautionary dose that will be administered. The registration for the vaccine has gone live on the CoWin website on Sunday. The government has reported that there will be no mixing and matching of the vaccines. If you were given Covishield in your first and second doses, you will be administered Covishield only for the third time. People who are eligible can register for the appointment of the third vaccine. An SMS alert has also been sent by the government to all the healthcare and frontline workers.

India also began vaccinating children of the 15-18-year-old age group. Along with the vaccination, various restrictions have been put all over the country to prevent the spread of the infection. Hopefully, the vaccines will boost the nation’s fight against the Coronavirus which has gripped the nation and the world for the last two years.
