Salman Khan, a well-known actor in Bollywood, claimed before the Bombay High Court on Friday that the recordings his Panvel farmhouse neighbour Ketan Kakkad posted about him online were not only defamatory in nature but also racially offensive.
Mr. Khan appealed a civil court decision from March 2022 that denied him relief in a defamation complaint he had filed against Mr. Kakkad. Justice C. V. Bhadang presided over the hearing.
The lawsuit was brought against Mr. Kakkad in relation to recordings that he posted on social media concerning what the actor is claimed to have been doing at his Panvel estate.
Mr. Khan had asked the court to order Mr. Kakkad to take down the defamatory recordings and to stop making such remarks going forward.
The actor moved the high court after the civil court declined to issue such an order.
Ravi Kadam, the attorney for Mr. Khan, claimed on Friday that the civil court’s decision to deny an injunction was incorrect.
“Kakkad uploads videos that are blatantly hypothetical. They were not only slanderous but also inspired viewers’ animosity toward Salman Khan on a community level “added Mr. Kadam.
Millions of viewers watch these videos and then remark negatively on Salman Khan. This is unmistakably inciting the audience against Salman. The senior attorney claimed that the videos had turned everything into a Hindu vs. Muslim conflict.
Additionally, Mr. Kakkad made various claims that Salman Khan belonged to the group of crime don Dawood Ibrahim, the source continued.
Salman is allegedly operating a drug, organ, and child trafficking operation out of his property, according to Kakkad, Kadam added.
The bench posted the case for further hearing on August 22 after hearing the case’s brief arguments.
Through his attorneys Abha Singh and Aditya Singh, Mr. Kakkad had argued in the lower court that the actor had brought the defamation lawsuit in an effort to pressure him into selling his land.
