The medium-range Ramjet Supersonic Cruise Missile, BrahMos, as its advanced version, got successfully tested for long-range precision by the Indian Navy on Saturday.
The tweet by the Indian Navy said that the advanced version of BrahMos is now validated for long-range precision after its successful test-firing. Its pinpoint destruction of target demonstrated combat was highlighted, along with its readiness for the frontline. The tweet termed it as ‘another shot in the arm for Atmanirbhar Bharat.
BrahMos is notably one of the fastest supersonic, with a speed greater than that of sound, cruise missiles in the world, being a joint venture between the Russian Federation’s NPO Mahinstroyeniya and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
It is as well the fastest Anti-ship Cruise missile currently in operation. With its advanced version, Brahmos, in a fast-moving Sukhoi-30 that can travel at least 1500 km towards a target, gets fired propelling another 400 km to cause pinpoint destruction to take out a target.
BrahMos gives better target-penetration characteristics than lighter subsonic cruise-missile, attributed to its comparatively much higher speed, leading to precision now even in long-range.
The BrahMos missile weapon system is already inducted into the Armed Forces, and being a universal missile it can be launched from ships, mobile launchers, submarines and aircraft.
