India has reported 1,94,720 cases in the past 24 hours increasing the total number of cases to 3,60,70,510. This number includes the Omicron cases which are currently at 4868 according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry. The death toll has risen up to 4,84,655 with 442 new fatalities added to the list.
Of the total Omicron cases, 1805 have recovered or migrated as well. Maharashtra is still leading the tally of highest Omicron infections with 1281 cases, Rajasthan is closely following it with 645 cases. The national capital has recorded 546 cases. Karnataka and Kerala have reported 479 and 350 Omicron cases respectively.
Coronavirus cases have been surging in the nation due to the rise in the number of Omicron cases. The number of active cases is about to cross the ten-lakh mark. In the wake of the steep increase in cases, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on January 11 with leaders of the Indian Medical Association and the senior doctors from all over the country as well. The meeting was held to discuss the Covid management through VC. Suggestions were given and the doctors’ instructions were noted carefully as tweeted by the Minister. Prime Minister is also expected to hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers from all the states and union territories regarding the same tomorrow.
On January 11, the nation reported a slightly less number of new cases. Ever since the Omicron emerged, the rise in the cases was steep with Maharashtra and Delhi being the worst-hit states. State governments have imposed various restrictions to halt the spread of new infections. Karnataka government has extended the strict regulations imposed till January 31 keeping in mind the surge in Covid-19 cases. The government of Delhi has closed all the private offices except the ones in the exempted category and has also encouraged people to work from home. Gujarat government has also put a cap on people attending weddings and other events.
Many ministers and influential people have also tested positive for the infections. Most people are testing positive but are not that severe. They are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms but they cannot be taken lightly. With the world still being gripped under the highly transmissible Omicron, western nations are more affected.
If the cases are stabilized in the next 2-3 days the restrictions might be eased. For now, people are advised to stay at home as much as possible and wear a mask at all times when they are in public places.
