The nation has reported around 37,379 new COVID cases and 124 deaths in the last 24 hours. The government has also reported that India has reported 1892 Omicron cases as of today. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also tested positive for the virus with mild symptoms and he has isolated himself at home. 

India has also started its vaccination drive for children between 15-18 years of age from January 3. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister had reported that over 40 lakh teens got the first dose of vaccine on the first day of vaccination drive only. He congratulated the nation via Twitter and said that it is another feather in the cap of the nation’s vaccination drive. Many schools were also used as centers for vaccination and the vaccine called ‘Covaxin’ was administered to the teens which was approved by the government in the wake of the rising corona cases.

The state of Maharashtra reported 12,160 new Covid-19 cases on Monday which is 283 more than the previous day. Maharashtra also reported 11 new deaths and the active tally of cases crossed the 50,000 mark in the state. Total cases in Maharashtra is now at 67,12,028 and the death toll has increased to 1,41,553. These are the overall figures. The Omicron cases have now increased to 578 with 68 new cases detected on Monday. Maharashtra has been leading the tally of Corona cases in India. 

Delhi has been second on the list of Corona cases. On Monday, the national capital reported 4099 new covid cases with the positivity rate rising up to 6.46 percent. Satyendar Jain, Delhi’s Health Minister has stated that the rise in Omicron cases has been the reason for the steep surge of covid cases in the state. 

The state of Tamil Nadu has also seen a rapid increase in the number of cases with 1728 new covid cases recorded on Monday. India is witnessing a potential third wave of the pandemic and the Omicron variant has been spreading at an unprecedented rate.

The Union government has reported that over 152 crore vaccine doses have been provided to the states and union territories across the country. All the states have been getting ready for the highly transmissible Omicron variant. A lot of new restrictions have been imposed in the states to avoid the spread of the virus. The WHO has also issued warnings to all countries which have been dealing with the virus.  Some booster shots and additional anti-viral pills have been given approval by various governments to boost the fight against COVID.
