Due to the heavy rainfall, many districts in Tamil Nadu have declared today, November 2, a vacation for all schools and colleges. The shutdown of schools was mandated by several communities, including Chennai, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Chengalpattu. The educational boards of all the public and private schools and universities in these districts have been instructed to cancel today's courses. Heavy to very significant rainfall is expected in sixteen districts over the next four days in some areas of Tamil Nadu that have already experienced heavy rain.
According to Balachandran, Deputy Director of the MET center in Chennai, Nungambakkam in Chennai got 80.4 MM on November 1, which is the third-highest amount of rain in the past 72 years. As of this morning at 5:30, the Nagapattinam district had received up to 4.5 CM.
Tamil Nadu could expect 35 to 75 percent more rain this season, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Chief Minister M K Stalin encouraged district administrations to be ready with relief and emergency operation plans while evaluating monsoon readiness throughout Tamil Nadu. Mr. Stalin has requested that the district administrations keep the emergency centers, cell phone services, and hospitals available.
