On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court granted the Crime Branch's request for forensic examination of the memory card holding images of the 2017 actress assault incident.
The petition was examined by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas' lone bench.
The court instructed the prosecution to promptly submit the document to the State Forensic Science Laboratory through the means specified by law, within two days of receipt of the ruling, in order to admit the Crime Branch's plea. Within seven days, the State Forensic Science Lab will analyze the document as required and deliver a report to the Investigating Officer and the court in a sealed cover. Without any delays, the subsequent inquiry must be completed within the stipulated time frame.
The Crime Branch requested the forensic test to validate the memory card's unauthorized access after seeing a change in its hash value that seemed to indicate file tampering.
The memory card and the information on it may have been read several times, and the last time they were opened can only be determined by a thorough forensic investigation, the Crime Branch of the prosecution noted in their plea.
Although the trial court was informed of changes to the hash value on January 29, 2020, the prosecution was not informed until February 2022.
