Former spouse of Jeff Bezos, creator of Amazon, and American philanthropist MacKenzie Scott gave two of her Beverly Hills residences, each worth $55 million, to a nonprofit organization.
One of the billionaires who has committed to donating the bulk of their money to charity is Ms. Scott. She has since expanded her charitable efforts by giving up her opulent residences, which she had owned for an extended period.
A charitable organization called the California Community Foundation (CCF) said that Ms. Scott had given "two single-family homes valued at $55 million."
According to a news release, CCF President & CEO Antonia Hernandez commented, "We appreciate and are thankful for MacKenzie Scott's tremendous humanitarian contribution in Los Angeles."
"Her unwavering dedication to transformational giving, both locally and nationally, has already guaranteed the long-term viability of several nonprofit organizations. Her gift will help groups working to find solutions to some of the most challenging problems confronting our community via the California Community Foundation. We appreciate her cooperation, "said the CCF President.
According to the New York Post, Ms. Scott, who wed high school instructor Dan Jewett in 2021, obtained sole possession of the properties after divorcing Jeff Bezos in 2019. The ex-couple bought the first house for $24.45 million back in 2017. They bought the second home on the same street 10 years later in 2017 for $12.9 million.
The CCF now intends to sell the residences, as stated in the news statement. According to the organization, 90% of the sale revenues will go toward "affordable housing grantmaking" at the Foundation. CCF will use the remainder of the money to assist its immigrant integration program, increasing the possibilities for the millions of immigrants in Los Angeles County.
The Post reports that Ms. Scott's 4% ownership share in Amazon has contributed an estimated $37 billion in net wealth for her. She has given countless charities and organizations supporting issues like racial, gender, and economic equality billions of dollars throughout the years.
