Following a dispute with his wife, a 30-year-old farm laborer in Maharashtra's Jalna district reportedly murdered his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter by throwing her into a farm pond on Wednesday.
According to them, the event happened early in the morning in Nidhina village in Jalna tehsil.
An official reported that Jagannath Dhakne, the defendant, was later taken into custody.
Dhakne had relocated from Sillod in the Aurangabad district to Jalna two months prior with his wife and little daughter to work at a farm.
He reportedly removed the infant, who was sleeping in a crib and flung her into the farm pond without his wife's knowledge on Wednesday morning after a disagreement between him and his wife, according to the police.
The accused accompanied his wife on the hunt when she could not locate their daughter at home. Later, they said, a report of the baby's kidnapping was made to the Chandanzira police station.
The police questioned the accused as they began their investigation. But it became out he was making false assertions. It was discovered that he had invented the tale of his daughter's kidnapping. After much interrogation, he eventually admitted to committing the crime.
A case of murder was registered against Dhakne, and further investigation into the case is on.
