Military dialogue fails between India and China

The 14th round of military talks between India and China has not resulted in any positive outcomes so far and has failed to move forward. Both the countries have decided to mutually work towards resolving issues regarding the Ladakh LAC stand-off issue. Although this round of talks has not been able to yield expected results the next round is estimated to happen soon to resume the momentum of the important discussions.

Both the countries are supposed to release their respective press statements regarding the matter. The Indian side has clearly failed to persuade the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China to disengage from the Gogra Hot Springs near Kongka La and it has also not been able to convince the Chinese government to resolve the issues related to the patrolling rights in Depsang Bulge in Daulet Beg Oldi sector and Charding Nullah Junction in the Demchok sector. To put it simply the talks were constructive without any outcome in our favor. Reaching solutions that will be mutually beneficial to both parties will not happen so soon. The next round of talks hopefully will prove to be fruitful for both nations.

This also implies that there is a guarantee of further talks in order to restore peace but there is no guarantee if the PLA of China will restore the status quo of April 2020 ante in Gogra Hot Springs or even resolve the Depsang Bulge and the CNJ issue as well. The bilateral relations between the countries are not too strong at the moment. Both the Indian Army and PLA will engage in talks in the future to reach a common ground.

The Indian Army had raised the issue of building a bridge over Pangong Tso by the PLA to encourage faster deployment of troops and steady militarisation of the captured Aksai Chin area by the Chinese Army along the 597 km Ladakh Line of Actual Control.

Both the armies of China and India are currently in a stand-off all along the LAC ever since the Chinese Army unilaterally decided to change the LAC. This was done under the orders from the Central Military Commission by President Xi Jinping. They have imposed the cartographical line of 1959 which was rejected. The armies of both nations are deployed fully along with more than 3 divisions of troops with missiles, rockets, and tank regiments.

The transgression by the PLA in Pangong Tso, Galwan, and Gogra Hot Springs in May 2020 has led to the breaking of the 1993 and 1996 bilateral tranquility and the peace agreements which were signed at the level of heads of states.

The Indian government has rejected these aggressions made by the PLA and it has been decided that until China resolves the issue at the LAC the bilateral relations will be put into cold storage.
