Mithali Raj, India's experienced batter and captain, has announced her retirement from international cricket.

The 39-year-old had previously resigned from T20 cricket, and her decision to retire from all formats following India’s ODI World Cup campaign in March was expected.

Mithali Raj, India’s all-time greatest cricketer, has declared her retirement from international competition. Mithali, 39, announced the news on Twitter, where she gave a heartfelt letter that summed up her 23-year career. Mithali Raj retires as the most-capped female cricketer in India’s history, as well as the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket, with 10,868 runs from 333 matches.

It will bring an end to a dazzling career that began in 1999 when she made her debut for India. Mithali has represented India in 12 Tests, 232 One Day Internationals, and 89 Twenty20 Internationals over her 23-year career.

Each time I stepped on the girls, I gave my very best with the intent to help India win. I will always cherish the opportunity given to me to represent the tricolor,” she said.

This journey may have ended but another one beckons as I’d love to stay involved in the game I love and contribute to the growth of Women’s Cricket in India and world over.

“Special mention to all my fans. thank you for all your love & support,” she said.

We wish all the best to her and are indeed in debt for all her valuable contributions to Women’s Cricket.
