Santoor Maestro, Music legend Shiv Kumar Sharma died at the age of 84.

Santoor Maestro, Music legend Shiv Kumar Sharma died at the age of 84.

Santoor maestro and Indian classical music legend died at the age of 84. The musician who was suffering from kidney-related problems for the past six months, breathed his last breath today in Mumbai. He had a heart attack on Tuesday morning at his residence.

“He had a severe heart attack at around 9 am… He was active and was to perform in Bhopal next week. He was on regular dialysis but was still was active,” PTI mentioned the family source as saying.

Shiv Kumar sharma was a renowned Jammu-born musician. He is believed in converting the santoor( folk instrument from Jammu and Kashmir), which was mainly played in Kashmir, into a major instrument of Indian classical music.

Shiv Kumar sharma is also a Padma Vibhushan recipient.

Tributes and condolences are poured at the demise of the music legend Shiv Kumar sharma.

Paying tribute to the Santoor maestro, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said-

“Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the Santoor at a global level. His music will continue to enthral the coming generations. I fondly remember my interactions with him. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

“Sad to know about the demise of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, eminent Santoor player and internationally celebrated Indian music composer. His departure impoverishes our cultural world. My deepest condolences,”
