On March 21, the birthday of Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, HarperCollins India announced that she would make her writing debut with a "candid, intimate" autobiography. The book is a chronicle of Rani's career as an actress in the film business that is "very intimate and disarmingly honest." According to Mukerji, the book explores her struggles and their effect on her as she managed her profession and the movie industry. "In the 25 years that I have so devotedly dedicated myself to the Indian film business, I have never spoken openly about my life and path in the film. We are frequently scrutinized as women in the film industry. I haven't had time to stop and reflect on my life in the past.
She added that the memoir is her way of reminiscing what she has been through since childhood.
Rani was described as an actor "who stands on the force of her powerful depictions of women in her films" by Bushra Ahmed, the senior commissioning editor at HarperCollins India.
"Rani Mukerji epitomized what an actress should be for many of us who grew up in the 2000s: stunning, refreshingly unique, and fascinating performance. She is from an era of the film when celebrities shone on the big screen without the flash of social media stardom, "added Ahmed.
