Coronavirus threatens the world yet again with a third wave

India has reported 2,47,417 fresh Coronavirus cases, this is said to be the highest single-day rise in the current wave. The tally of the total cases has gone up to 3,63,17,927 according to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday. The daily positivity rate had increased to 13.11 percent and the weekly positivity rate rose up to 10.80 percent.

The active cases are 3.08 percent of the total number of infections. The recovery rate of the nation had gone down to 95.59 percent, the ministry reported. The highest number in a single day was recorded nearly at 2.5 lakh fresh infections is 50,000 higher than the previous day’s count. The tally had also gone past the two-lakh mark for the first time since May 26 last year. Such highest increase in a single day was the jump of 43,196 cases that were recorded on April 27, 2021. That was the time when the second wave was at its peak.

Excluding the data from the state of Tripura, the nation also saw 203 deaths, crossing the 200 mark for the first time since October 27 last year. The cases have been rising at an alarming rate all over the country. Monday was the only day this week when the cases seemed to have stabilized, the cases declined a bit that day. Wednesday saw a 26.1 percent rise in cases more than Tuesday.

Although the growth of cases is very steep the death toll is not that high. The numbers are almost the same as the second wave but the figures of the death toll are much lower than the peak of the second wave of the pandemic. When the second wave was at its peak, the cases crossed the 2 lakh mark on April 14 with the death toll at 896. But the deaths have been rising rapidly this time as well. The number of deaths recorded this week is 81 percent higher than the previous week. The rate at which the numbers are increasing is pretty daunting.

India has entered the list of nations that have been worst-affected by the COVID-19. The surge in Corona cases is very rapid and the virus is refusing to let go of its grip over the world. As per the international data, there are only four countries that are reporting over a lakh fresh Corona cases. These are the United States, India, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

Despite vaccinating more than half of the population, the situation is not improving. If this continues, the year 2022 will not be better than the previous two years which were completely engulfed in tackling the deadly Coronavirus.
